HEY! I’M COURTNEY

  1. VITAMIX

Coming in first place as my all-time favorite blender is The Vitamix. Vitamix is the only brand to consider if you will be doing a LOT of blending, especially for vegan cuisine where cashews are turned into cheese and cheesecake, potatoes and carrots are whipped into queso, and frozen bananas are transformed into ice cream. This blender is also the best option if you need something that can mimic the functions of a food processor, as it has a “pulse” setting and a plunger that can help you keep things a little “chunkier”. For the green smoothie lover, this blender can easily hide spinach and kale, leaving only a green hue behind (no chewing your smoothies!). For the frozen cocktail enthusiast, the Vitamix will make quick work out of your margaritas, pina coladas, and frozen daiquiris.

However, this workhorse of an appliance isn’t cheap! Expect to spend between $250 and $600, depending on the model.

I’ve had my Vitamix 6300 for nearly six years. It’s moved with me across the country twice and gets used everyday, sometimes several times per day. If I could only keep one kitchen appliance, it would be my Vitamix hands down.

2. NutriBullet Pro

For a more affordable blender that will also flawlessly puree spinach in your morning smoothie, look no further than the NutriBullet Pro by Magic Bullet, coming in at $97.00.

Though not as versatile as the Vitamix, the NutriBullet is ideal for green smoothie lovers and does a great job blending nuts, meaning you can easily whip up nut butters, cashew cream, and nut milks. As long as there’s enough liquid in the blender, it can also make a wide varieties of sauces (including hummus).

One issue I have had with the NutriBullet is that blending anything hot creates a vacuum within the blender and makes the blade piece VERY hard to remove! I have sprayed blender-contents allllll over my kitchen more times than I can count in desperate attempts to wrestle open the NutriBullet. So, avoid blending hot things!

If you’re looking for something that’s affordable and easy to store but efficient in blending green smoothies and cashew cream or vegan cheese sauces, this blender is perfect!

3. The Magic Bullet

Last but not least is my top choice for a quality blender at a low price: The Magic Bullet. Though not as powerful nor as versatile as the NutriBullet and Vitamix, the Magic Bullet can do two things well that most WFPB vegans need from a blender: make a green smoothie without leaf chunks and make a smooth vegan cream or “cheese” sauce (be that out of soaked cashews, carrots and potatoes, sunflower seeds, or cauliflower). It comes with a nice smoothie cup and lid for on-the-go-breakfast people, in addition to two blender cups in different sizes. You can also opt to purchase the flat blade, which makes quick work of grinding coffee or chopping nuts.

One of the issues I’ve had with the Magic Bullet is that it can easily overheat. So, be careful to not overtax it.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, small blender that you’ll use mostly for smoothies, this blender is perfect. It’s particularly ideal for college students, who won’t be doing much cooking of their own but do want the freedom to blend up some healthful food in their dorm room.

After you’ve gotten your new blender, take it for a whirl by whipping up one of these recipes!
